When I was a kid, my family spent a lot of time driving back and forth between Waco and Lubbock as that is where my parents grew up and where their parents still lived.
That meant many long car trips. On those trips, whenever we asked my dad how much longer until we got there, he would tell us this unfunny joke about how a cat got its tail run over and the doctor said "It won't be long now." After a while he would just say, "It's like that cat's tail."
Well, if you're wondering how long until BJ's Brewhouse opens for business, it's like that cat's tail.
This morning, I spoke with Joey Bodnar, who will be one of the managers at the Waco BJ's Brewhouse. He said June 11 is the tentative opening day for the Waco restaurant, though he emphasized the tentativeness of it.
That makes sense. If you want to break a promise, begin by telling people when any sort of construction process is going to be finished. I'm still a little ruffled that the pool at my gym, which was supposed to be finished with renovations "on or before April 1," is still being renovated. Maybe that was an April Fool's joke on me.
As for BJ's Brewhouse, they originally hoped to be open in March, so it's probably going to be a nice sigh of relief for them when they are finally ready to go.
Interestingly, this will be Bodnar's fourth restaurant opening in Waco. He previously worked as a manager at the openings of Cheddar's, Tony Roma's and Marie Calendar's. I'm guessing the crowds to get into BJ's Brewhouse the first few days will remind Bodnar of the scene at Cheddar's when it opened.
