As of Monday evening, I had a significant hankering for some crab nachos.
Having planned to eat dinner at the new Mexican seafood restaurant Sergio's on Austin Avenue, and knowing that Sergio's is a rebirth of Siete Mares, formerly located on Dutton, I planned for crab nachos. My brain made a promise to whatever part of me produces cravings that crab nachos were in my near future.
But that set me up for a minor disappointment.
With a group assembled to dine at Sergio's on Monday evening, we arrived only to find the door locked. The paper sign on the front door, which had been noted earlier in the day, stated that Sergio's would be opening on March 8. So why wasn't it open? We bailed out to Cricket's, but the question remained.
And so on Tuesday at lunchtime, with my sister in town, we ventured back downtown to Austin Avenue and this time found Sergio's open.
Craving for crab nachos satisfied. That's them in the picture with this blog.
I also spoke with owner Sergio Garcia, who said he won't be open on Monday nights. He will be open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, closed on Sunday and just open for lunch on Monday.
A couple of things I should point out. Sergio's doesn't have a sign yet, but it is located in the space formerly occupied by Sebas Cocina and recently Mi Tequila Two. That's downtown on Austin Avenue across from Cross Fit. Also, they don't have a phone line yet, so their listing will be updated when that becomes available.
Garcia closed Siete Mares, took over a little lunch counter called El Potosino and now has opened Sergio's in the span of the last year. I think he's settled in at the current location, so things like signage and a phone will probably pop up in short order. Of course, we will let you know.
