It's January 4, so I figure we're far enough into this new year that I've earned the privilege of having a beer with lunch.
That's one of the perks of being a restaurant blogger, right?
And I happened to be having lunch at BJ's Brewhouse in Temple on a reconnaissance mission for you, WacoFork family. And the hostess made a point of giving me a detailed description of the craft beer menu. All of this coalesced to convince me that I needed a beer with lunch. Add the fact that BJ's offers an Irish-style red beer and I happen to be a big fan of Irish reds. So that's why I did it.
Beer was a bonus, though. I really just wanted information about the progress toward a BJ's Brewhouse opening in Waco on the corner of Highways 84 and 6, near the Richland Mall.
I spoke with manager George Ross, who informed me the new ETA for the brew house is sometime in April.
Right now, a fence surrounds the area that will become BJ's Brewhouse as a demolition and excavation company still has signs up and trucks within the fenced-off property. At one point, BJ's Brewhouse thought they might be ready to go as soon as March. The delay, Ross said, is an issue of preparing the site, formerly an office building, to become a restaurant. Apparently, a restaurant has to adhere to a higher standard of permit obtaining, which I think we can all appreciate.
Anyway, Ross said the restaurant has assurances that it will be able to begin construction by a particular date, which means they should be able to open for business in April.
Maybe just in time to watch the Final Four on their big screen HD televisions then?
I'd be up for that. And another Irish-style red beer, thank you.
