As I sat at my usual watering hole on a slow Sunday night, piddling on my phone as we are wont to do these days, I came across something on Twitter that made perfect sense.
One of those "Yes!" moments.
And so, I arrived at Common Grounds a little before 9 a.m. to be there for the debut of Taqueria El Crucero breakfast burritos served at that location.
This just might be a perfect combination. It's at least the best one I've witnessed since Weezer and Foo Fighters co-headlined a tour that I saw in Dallas in 2005. It's cool when two favorites come together and that's the case now at Common Grounds.
I was going to make this week "Patio or Porch" week anyway. Last week, my friend Lee Govatos suggested that I feature those types of places as the weather has suddenly turned nice. What better way to start that than eating a Crucero breakfast burrito while having my morning coffee at Common Grounds?
That's a really good start to the week.
So in case you're wondering how the Common Grounds-Crucero connection came about, it was really just a case of one place being a fan of the other. The baristas at Common Grounds love them some Crucero breakfast burritos.
So much so that they're practicing breakfast-burrito evangelism. (Get ready for them to walk up to you in the grocery store and ask if you've heard the good news of Crucero's breakfast burritos.)
"Sometimes you want a Crucero burrito before class in the morning but don't have quite enough time to drive over there and back," Common Grounds house manager Holden Whatley said. "And there might be a line at the drive thru. So this is a way to get your burrito and still make it to class.
"Or maybe some people have never heard about Crucero and now they will."
Amen, brother.
As for me, I've been more inclined to sip on an Americano at Starbucks in the AM. But it's easier in the morning to park and get coffee at Common Grounds than any other time of day (at least for those of us who don't live in a dorm at Baylor). And now they serve one of the best breakfast burritos in town.
That's a game changer.
