We don't get to choose our given names.
From that point forward we put careful attention into naming things, whether it be pets or cars or websites.
Sometimes, as with bands and diva wide receivers, names have to change.
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey," said the hipster record-store employee Jack Black character in High Fidelity. "We're on the verge of being called Kathleen Turner Overdrive, however this evening we will be Barry Jive and the Uptown Five."
Similarly, the restaurant formerly located on Dutton Ave. and called Siete Mares is on the verge of being called Sergio's, but for now it is called El Potosino.
I spoke with El Potosino owner Sergio Garcia on Tuesday afternoon and learned exciting news about his plans for his restaurant.
Those of us who dined at Siete Mares relished the alternative take on Mexican food, meaning Mexican seafood. Crab nachos. Need I say more?
For whatever reason, the Dutton location wasn't working for Garcia anymore, so he pulled back and relocated to a smaller building at 4th Street and David Drive, which is on 4th Street between downtown and the Cameron Park Zoo.
If you haven't been to El Potosino, it's similar in style to Leal's in Woodway and Lolita's on Franklin Ave. That's a solid model, but that's not the exciting part.
Beginning sometime in September, Garcia plans to roll out his Siete Mares Mexican seafood menu on Friday and Saturday nights at the El Potosino location. It will still be BYO beer or wine, so, just like we used to, we can show up with a bottle of wine and enjoy unique dishes in a relaxed environment.
It just won't be called Siete Mares or El Potosino, Garcia is putting the final touches on new signage and menus in order to rename his place Sergio's. (The picture with this blog is a preview of the new sign).
One more bite: We're meeting up at Beatnix at noon on Thursday. Join us for burgers and lattes.
