Anybody who gripes that there's nothing to do in Waco isn't looking hard enough.
I will personally be consuming football at gluttonous levels, but that's just one way to go. As such, what follows is our recommendations for a fun weekend here in our humble burg.
- Friday night hang out fun: Whether it's before dinner or after, we recommend strolling by Anthem Studios (in the Praetorian) for a new exhibit featuring local artist Erin Dobbins that opens at 6 this evening. I had a sneak preview of Dobbins' work and it's phenomenal. Then postgame it at The Dancing Bear, Barnett's or True Love, which has Austin musician Jay Satelite on stage.
- Saturday morning farmers market trip: We recommend going early, while the temperature is still in the 90s.
- For those going to the Baylor football game: Saturday sets up perfect for brunch. A late-morning meal will allow you to chill a little before making a tailgate appearance and then into the game. We recommend El Crucero, Sironia or Cafe Homestead.
- Baylor vs. Buffalo football: We recommend getting there for the beginning or else you're likely to miss all the drama. With the Bears comfortably ahead, you'll be able to leave mid-second quarter and avoid exhaustion and severe sunburn.
- Saturday night postgame fun: We recommend the Seryn show at Common Grounds for $10 at the door or The Schisms/Johnny's Body/Rigoletto for $5 at True Love.
- Sunday lunch: We recommend Clay Pot, where I recently discovered you can request a fried egg ON ANYTHING. Also they have TVs, so you don't have to miss any of the first week of the NFL season.
- Sunday night Cowboys game: We recommend Shorty's.
