It became completely necessary, for a variety of reasons, for me to pick up some food for lunch on Thursday. And because I was headed out of town for the rest of the day and I wanted to continue Mexican Food Week, it was completely necessary to pick up Mexican food.
So where does one pick up Mexican food?
There's no shortage of options, I suppose. I noticed at Leal's on Monday and El Crucero on Tuesday that both places featured drive through windows. One could also make the argument that taco trucks are made specifically to take Mexican food to go.
But I chose Rosa's, as I do pretty often. At least once every couple of weeks because of its proximity to my house and it's considerable variety of Mexican dishes. And also because it's an extremely efficient drive through. It doesn't seem to matter what I order, by the time I come around to the window it's sacked up and ready to go. I'm going to choose not to be cynical about this becuase the order is always correct and the food always tastes good.
One of the reasons it was completely necessary to pick up Mexican food was that my friends the Webbs were enjoying post-VBS lunch at their house. The Webbs have fed me more times than I can ever repay them for and they would have happily fed me today. Only, as stated, I needed to eat Mexican food in order to continue Mexican Food Week.
And so I brought sopapillas for the kids, of which there were seven. That number worked out well as Rosa's offers sopapillas in packages of eight. One for me, one for each of the kids, theoretically anyway.
As it turned out, many of the kids had already eaten and moved on to other, non-food related matters. My buddy Luke, though, eventually decided he wanted to eat multiple sopapillas. I lost count after he consumed four of them. I ate two, so he could have eaten as many as six and that might be how many he devoured.
Recapping the week at this point, Mexican food dishes I've tucked into include a burrito with beef, potatoes, cheese and guacamole, a chili relleno burrito, buena vista fajitas, the largest chili relleno I've ever seen, tacos al carbon, a guacamole tostada, sopapillas and, of course, plenty of chips and salsa.
That sounds like a lot, but don't worry. My stomach is hanging in there just fine.
One more bite: Once upon a time, Luke's dad, Jeremy, was served sopapillas at Panchos when there was a Panchos on Valley Mills Drive. He dubbed them air biscuits which became a running joke.
