I don't know about you, but as I made my way through a busy weekend, two questions seemed to be flowing back and forth between the Waco folks I encountered.
Wait, I should qualify this. The main question of the weekend was "Did you rush the field?" referring to the mass Baylor Bears celebration on the Floyd Casey Stadium turf following RG3's game-winning touchdown pass to Terrance Williams.
The other two questions, though, were "Did you make it to the Waco Downtown Farmers Market?" and "What are you doing for Thanksgiving?"
Which leads me to today's blog about the Texas Cheese House in Lorena because Texas Cheese House participated with a booth at the farmers market and also happens to be an excellent place to buy supplementary items for Thanksgiving dinner, if you happen to be the one responsible for Thanksgiving dinner.
I've been intrigued by Texas Cheese House since seeing it in our directory and hearing a couple of positive testimonials. However, I never made it to Lorena to dine there until Monday. As a bonus, I visited with proprietor Scott Simon, who was busy setting up shop when I arrived a little after 11 Monday morning.
Simon, who makes the cheeses and runs the cafe seven days a week, told me he had great success at Saturday's farmers market. He sold out of his products before 11 a.m. and spent the rest of the day offering samples. I imagine more than a few of Simon's customers on Saturday had Thanksgiving casseroles in mind when they purchased cheese at the booth.
For those who didn't make it to the farmers market, or didn't make it in time to buy products from the Texas Cheese House, there's still time to get to Lorena. Simon's cafe and store offers meats, chocolates and other locally produced products along with his assortment of homemade cheese.
And, by the way, you can eat lunch or dinner there as well. I had a grilled cheese fold over made with jalapeno cheddar. It's funny, I never liked grilled cheese as a kid. In fact I loathed it. But I feel completely opposite now. I love grilled cheese. What better place to get it than a cheese shop?
