I could get used to dining outside.
The weather has been just right lately. Cool enough for a hoodie in the morning, warm but not hot through the middle of the day and nothing short of inviting in the evening.
On Tuesday night, with no Rangers game to occupy my attention, I enjoyed a nice quiet sandwich on the patio at Panera Bread. Well, not completely quiet as the many blackbirds squawked from their power-line perches as the sun set in the distance, beyond the roar of Highway 6. So it was nice in its own way.
At lunch today, I met my buddies on the porch at El Charro Tapatio, which has to be in the discussion for "best porch in town." I posed the question whether or not it was in fact the best porch in town. The porches or patios as Cricket's and Chuy's and elsewhere came into the debate, but I don't believe we determined that there's a better porch than the one at El Charro.
(In case anyone is keeping score, El Charro, Cricket's and Panera all allow patrons to smoke in their outdoor seating. I still need to do some reconnaissance at Chuy's.)
Right now, as I've moved my work station to my own front porch, it occurs to me that the weather could stay this way for a month and, besides my not complaining, I would also not be able to sit down at a table at every porch or patio in town.
So I need your help. (If you assume, I'm attempting to cut this blog short so that I can make a move for the golf course, then you're not completely off base).
What's your favorite porch or patio in Waco? What's the best food to eat outdoors? What's the best porch or patio for happy hour? I know you have an opinion. Let me hear it.
