The WacoFork Tour of Asia in Waco: Kitok

Call it the "Kitok quandary."

I assume at least half the people who ever eat at Kitok struggle with the decision whether to take the easy way out and order a lip locker or to be a little more culturally sophisticated and order Korean food.

It's possible I'm overshooting the percentages here. It's possible I'm the only one who worries about this, but that wouldn't surprise me. I'm a bit of an over-thinker. If you consumed a lip locker on your first ever visit to Kitok's, then it's likely that you stuck with it. Dance with the girl that brung ya, I always say. Conversely, if you grew up on bulgogi like I did, then that's what Kitok's is to you.

Oriental fries work both ways, so that's peace of mind.

But just in case anyone out there is like me, I'll break it down a bit, analyzing the pros and cons of a lip locker versus bulgogi.

Lip Locker

Pro: Many have tabbed this burger as the best in town and it's difficult to argue this point. … There's also something kind of charming about eating a greasy hamburger at a Korean restaurant, which is made even more unique by the oriental fries.

Con: Theoretically, you can get a burger anywhere.

Bulgogi

Pro: The centerpiece of the dish is flavorful and tender beef or chicken (or beef and chicken if you wish). But the amenities, including salad, some sort of chicken and potato soup and fried rice, bring almost as much to the table. … The satisfaction and superiority of eating Korean food at a Korean restaurant.

Con: The slight sting of envy when your dining companion chomps down on his or her lip locker.
