A week ago, Cafe Homestead rolled out a new feature of what is already one of Waco's most unique dining experiences. The restaurant, part of the Homestead Heritage community and its farm, launched a series of special evening meals with a Farm to Table dinner.
I attended with a group of good, loyal WacoForkers. It was delicious. It was well organized and efficiently run. In short, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had anywhere in a while. The photo accompanying this blog shows the main course with a ribeye and cheese and jalapeño grits.
Apparently it faired pretty well for the Cafe Homestead folks as well as they're already presenting another in the series of dinners with a Mediterranean Dinner on Thursday.

Food truck update
I've been trying to get a handle on all the food trucks in town and I'm not above asking for your help. Sometimes I feel like someone took the state fair food vendors and scattered them throughout the state, with a few, mostly taco trucks, landing in Waco.
That said, I found a new variety of food stand courtesy of my friend Claire Kultgen. She told me about a corn stand somewhere in the vicinity of University Baptist Church on Dutton. It didn't take long to find "Corn On The Cup," which is attached to a convenience store/restaurant called Cobie's Drive-In.
While looking for the corn stand, I also happened across another taco truck, El Norteno, which I've added to the restaurant listings as well. El Norteno, located at 18th and Dutton, seems to specialize in chicken, though it does have fajita beef and lengua
Block Party
WacoForker Carole Kiphen was nice enough to join me as we donned our WacoFork T-shirts and made an appearance at the Business After Hours Block Party hosted by Klassy Glass and friends on Thursday evening.
Klassy Glass, Metro, Legacy Cafe, Garrett's, The Birdhouse, Suit City and the Melange boutique gave party goers plenty to see, do and win. Meanwhile, the Waco community deserves kudos for braving the early evening heat and making this a lively event. I was concerned that the high temperatures at 5 p.m. would keep people away, but there was plenty of shade, not to mention free beer and wine.
