The fruit cake is in flight.
On Thursday, we purchased a large fruit cake from Collin Street Bakery in order to conduct a little experiment (or play a game, depending on how seriously you think we take ourselves). So I announced via Twitter and Facebook that we would give away this fruit cake to the first taker. The only catch was that they had to let us know, if they passed it along, to whom they gave it.
So about 4:15, Denyse Rodgers sent an email claiming the fruit cake. She was the first one, so therefore the winner. Within the following half hour, we had about a half dozen applicants. Too late.
I delivered the fruit cake to Rodgers, or @wacoturtle as she's known on Twitter, and inquired as to whether she planned to eat it or pass it along.
Because it might potentially be given a gift, I don't want to reveal her specific intentions. I'll just say that our fruit cake hasn't reached its final destination.
Our fruit cake experiment has already brought forth some interesting information. For example, I heard from a couple of WacoFork friends who have relatives who thoroughly enjoy a good fruit cake.
Even better, the particular variety of fruit cake offered by the Collin Street Bakery has been featured on the Food Network show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate."
