Now that we've been doing this WacoFork thing for almost two years, I'm pleased to say I've learned a few things about our local restaurant scene.
One of the more rewarding tidbits: perhaps my favorite burger in town comes from the unlikely source of Sironia Cafe.
I should explain that statement. Sironia as a store offers fantastic shopping and its cafe offers a delicious menu featuring quiche, soups and sandwiches and all the things that a cafe adjoining a shop would imply. So it wouldn't be surprising to get a Greek salad and a pimento cheese sandwich. But to get a tasty burger, the kind I would call a country club burger, is a game-changer.
Men, offer to meet your wives or girlfriends here for lunch. You very well may score some serious points and you don't even have to give me credit. Order the burger, like the California burger I had for lunch, and you will be very happy as well.
I have to give extra credit to Sironia chef Juan De La Certa here. I was busy taking photos of desserts and nonchalantly asked for a burger to go. De La Certa asked which burger I would like and he suggested the California, with its avocoado slices and ranch dressing. That made my lunch go from good to great.
That's my spill on Sironia and it has been for a while. But I've got a new spill on them. After taking a look at the dessert case today and visiting with resident baker Aly Shetter, I'm intrigued by the possibility of stopping in for dessert and coffee or special ordering a cake or pie.
Today the Sironia Cafe dessert case included German chocolate pie, strawberry cake, banana pudding, coconut custard, two buttermilk pies (one with pecans, one without), carrot cake, orange dreamsicle cake, chocolate fudge cake, pink lemonade pie and white chocolate raspberry cake.
I could spend more words telling you how good these desserts looked and smelled, but you can see the photo with this blog. Need I say more?
