WacoFork Tour of Waco Christmas Lights 2015

My family loves to drive around Waco every Christmas and see all of the great Christmas light displays around town. Last year we started a tradition called "Jammy Cocoa Christmas" where we all put on our pajamas, hop in the car, get some hot chocolate from Starbucks, and drive around town hitting our favorite spots. Last night was our 2nd annual Jammy Cocoa Christmas, and here is the list of spots we hit along with a couple of other spots we didn't hit list night.

The Hanging Christmas Tree - 22012 Bush Dr.

For anyone who grew up in Waco, the hanging Christmas tree is a symbol of Christmas. It used to be on Highway 84 near Highway 6, but the company that displays the tree has moved further west on Highway 84. We see this every time we drive home at night, and my kids love it just as much as I always have.

205 Appaloosa Trail

This one is always one of our favorites. Our good friends, Lee and Kristy Boyd, put a lot of time and energy into creating a truly impressive display that gets bigger and better every year. Because the house backs up to Old McGregor Rd., they even take the time to decorate the back of the house.

Darwin Claus - 3429 Austin Ave.

Darwin is the big stone gorilla at 3429 Austin Ave. that gets painted by the homeowners in a different outfit for every holiday. At Christmas, he gets painted like Santa Claus, and it's a must-stop place for pictures.

2737 Proctor Ave.

old-hillcrest

This was our favorite spot this year. It's over near the old Hillcrest hospital location, and these people have covered their whole yard in decorations. Our favorite part was the signing and dancing Grinch Santa Claus on the front porch that my 4-year-old decided to dance with.

Deerwood Drive

 deerwood

Deerwood Dr. is a neighborhood that coordinates together to decorate all of the houses. Each house has a wooden reindeer-shaped sign indicating the name of the family at the house, and each house is docorated with its own style of Christmas lights.

Wooded Crest Drive

We drive down Wooded Crest several times during the Christmas season to look at the lights, and it's always one of the stops on our light tour. Almost every house on the street between Highway 84 and Jimmark goes all out with decorations. One house even has its own radio station playing Christmas songs.

20 Oak Creek Circle

schmidt-house

We go by this house several times during the Christmas season as well because it's really close to where we live. This house is on a huge lot in Harris Creek, and the homeowners cover it in Christmas lights and deocrations. There is an entrance and exit to their circle drive that they encourage visitors to drive through to get a closer look at the displays. If you drive through, don't forget to donate to Fuzzy Friends Rescue in the donation bucket they provide.

BLORA Nature in Lights

We didn't get to see BLORA Nature in Lights last night because we already visited it a couple of weeks ago and because it's in Belton. This is a massive trail of lights put on every year at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area (BLORA), and it's definitely worth the drive and the small entry fee.

Waco Community Fellowship Drive Through Nativity

We usually visit the Drive Through Nativity at Waco Community Fellowship, but it was cancelled this year because many of their sets were damaged during Saturday night's storms. Hopefully they'll have it up and running again next year.
