Waco mom Emily Mills goes viral with hilarious parody of Adele's "Hello"

December 11, 2015 | Cory Webb | Around Town

Last week, we posted on our Facebook page an impromptu video that local mom, singer/songwritter Emily Mills created which was posted by her friend. At the time, that video had hit about 43,000 views, and it has since reached over 200,000 views. Given that video's popularity, Emily, along with her husband Brett and friends Kylie Higgins and Kelly Tetens, decided to have a little fun with it and record a full-length, more professional version of the video and post it to YouTube.

It's been fun to watch over the past week as various news outlets and blogs picked up on the video, and it has quickly surpassed 1 million views in just a few short days. It has been featured on the Today Show, Huffington Post, MTV, and several other high-profile media outlets. The video is currently at 1.2 million views and climbing. Well done, Emily and Brett!

Here is what Emily had to say about the video on the Facebook page of the Mills' non-profit ministry, Jesus Said Love:

I have only known ministry in the context of motherhood. This is entirely appropriate, since over half of the women we reach in the commercial sex industry are moms (many of whom are single mothers). That being said, our tribe understands the zaniness that is "The Motherside" - childbearing and working and life and all that's in between.

The parody started as a totally goofy response to a girls' night invitation. When my original video text went viral on Facebook, we decided to make a full length video with my friends from "The Motherside". The Today Show featured that on their website...crazy!

My sincere hope is that this platform, as weird and zany as it may be, will draw people toward the Kingdom work of JSL. We exist to share the love of Jesus with women in the sex industry...Awakening hope and empowering change not only in their lives, but also within our churches, community, and culture.

I would like to add that if you enjoyed the video, please consider supporting the Mills' efforts with Jesus Said Love. They are currently raising money to build a commissary kitchen at their new building in downtown Waco. To learn more and to donate, visit http://jesussaidlove.com/kitchen.
