This time of year people start asking where they can go eat for Thanksgiving so they don’t have to make food for the family, or maybe just for themselves. Some want to eat at home without the hassle of cooking.
We've found a number of places that will be open and serving on Thanksgiving Day, and 2 others that are making take home meals. The list is not comprehensive and there will be additions to this list as we learn of others. You can tweet updates to us at @WacoFork or on Facebook.
After making a lot of calls I found that Denny's, IHOP and the usual 24/7 type places will be open, and most Chinese Buffets in town were open serving their normal fare, but some others serving a more traditional dine-in fare include:
- Raymond's Southern Kitchen in Lorena
- Cracker Barrel
- Golden Corral
- Luby's Cafeteria
- Park's Family Buffet
- Hotel Indigo - Brazos Bar and Bistro - Need Reservations - Set price Thanksgiving inspired menu
- Bronc's - Full menu and dessert set price - no reservations, first come first served
- Waco Hilton - Brazos Grille - Thanksgiving Buffet
For Prepared meals to take home:
The menu offerings for Secret Chef were particularly complete, including options like sliced turkey breast, baked ham, raspberry grilled pork tenderloin, and beef tenderloin with 11 options for sides, 3 salads, and 9 desserts. Orders need to be in by Monday, Nov 23rd.

The Waco Hippodrome is changing the menus and bringing a new attitude and down home comfort to the table with their lunch hour menu and upcoming dinner menus. I sat down and visited with the executive chef and got a taste of what's changed and how they want to keep you coming back for more with a great menu at affordable prices. Seeing green beans as a side was a small but refreshing change for me, as all of the prior sides were starches, many times added to starch-filled entrees.
Several months back, the Waco Tribune carried an article saying that Te'jun the Texas Cajun truck was creating a dine-in family style restaurant in Robinson to open in late 2015 or early 2016. This has now been delayed until late spring to early summer 2016 as the clearing and building process is running behind schedule. The Truck/Trailer setup is still a regular at the Robinson Brookshire's parking lot, and it is not to be missed if you like some Cajun style seafood.
Most everyone knows In-n-Out is opening soon, but there are other shops coming soon as well. Most had hoped to open in Q1 2016 (Jan-Mar) but again some delays look to be making that closer to or in Q2 2016(Apr-Jun). Among the shops opening there will be a gourmet popsicle shop, Steel City Pops, which is available now at the Saturday Downtown Farmer's Market. They create small batch, locally-sourced ingredient dessert treats. Visit them and ready your appetite for what's coming soon.
