I recently took a visit to Dave’s Burger Barn at the corner of Patricia and Crest in order to confirm some talk I had heard during the week about a Thanksgiving project concerning Dave’s. I talked with Melanie Williams, an employee and temporary spokesperson for Dave’s, and it turned out that everything I had heard was true, and then some.
This Thanksgiving, Dave’s is really putting forth an effort to engage their community by opening their doors from 11am-2pm for a Thanksgiving lunch.
The lunch will be free of charge for anyone who visits, and for those who can’t make it out of their home due to illness or disability, Dave’s will be delivering. Further, Dave’s will be open for a Thanksgiving dinner at 6:45pm, and they are expecting around 500 people to attend throughout the day. I asked if Dave’s had any partners helping them out with this initiative, and I was informed that this was something that Dave’s was doing on their own.
“We just wanted to take our community involvement to the next level, and this was it," Williams said. "Our goal is to help as many people as we possibly can.”
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Dave’s, they have been featured on multiple television outlets, including the Discovery Channel, and have had the Duck Dynasty crew come and attempt the “Zipper Ripper,” a nationally renowned burger challenge that involves eating a five patty burger, layered with bacon, cheese, and vegetables, and served with a pound of french fries. Dave's is known worldwide because of this burger, and in order to successfully complete the challenge, it all has to be eaten within 12 minutes and without help. If one succeeds, a picture of them is placed on the “Wall of Fame,” and if they fail, there’s a wall for that too.
I could tell while I was visiting Dave’s that this project is something that the staff really believed in. Based on Melanie’s passion during our conversation, I know that Dave’s is going to bring an abundance of joy to their community this Thanksgiving and going to give the people a lot to be thankful for.
Dave’s is taking donations between now and Thanksgiving Day. They need canned foods, volunteers, and possibly drivers to take food to those who can’t get out of their homes easily. If you would like to get involved, you can call Dave’s at 254-867-8000 and ask to speak with Melanie.
