Last week I wrote about The Boudain Shack in Robinson. That blog has accumulated quite a few hits, so I imagine it's piqued the interest of a few WacoFork friends.
I'm here to tell you, it's one thing to write about a restaurant and another to dine there. I took my buddy Tye to The Boudain Shack on Thursday for lunch and we were smitten by the atmosphere and owner Angela Everett and her family long before our food arrived (which was almost immediately after we sat down, so that illustrates their significant charm).
Between the two of us, we ate crawfish etouffee, red beans and rice, shrimp gumbo and smoked boudain sausage. Now, I obviously eat a lot of different kinds of food. I know I've said before that if the choice is being a few pounds fatter than I want to be and eating things like cheese enchiladas and cookies n' cream milkshakes, then pass me the guacamole, the straws and the large T-shirt. Well, there ain't nothing like a piece of bread with butter on it dipped in crawfish etouffee with a little Cajun hot sauce on top.
My lord, that's good.
I realize at this point I could write paragraph upon paragraph just covering the reasons why I dig crawfish etouffee and especially this place. But I'm not going to do it. Here's all you need to know:
1) It's a treat to have order-at-the-counter Cajun in our town.
and
2) Go there.
One more bite: I initially attempted to take my friends Kaley, Monike and Marcus on Wednesday night. We pulled up at 7, but it was church night. The Boudain Shack is open until 9 most nights, but they close at 6 on Wednesdays. Good call.
