A few weeks ago, a good WacoFork friend, Kara Fisher, stopped me at The Dancing Bear's birthday party and told me about a hot dog joint she visited in Cleveland called Happy Dog. She kept a menu from Happy Dog to share with us, which made us happy.
I've been holding on to the menu for a day like today when i didn't know quite what to blog. We have a new hot dog joint headed our way with plans for The Lone Mammoth underway. I've been told The Lone Mammoth won't arrive until 2014, but it's going to be gourmet franks and sausages and definitely worth looking forward to its opening.
At the moment, we have several decent options for hot dogs around town. Personally, I've always felt like you couldn't go wrong with a hot dog at the golf course. I like my golf course hot dog with ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese, onions and Tabasco sauce.
Don't judge. I've heard it already. Almost every Saturday growing up, my dad and I played golf and I ordered this hot dog with these topping and every time he rolled his eyes at me. So it's a hard-earned preference.
But perhaps that's why the menu for Happy Dog struck me just right, my preferences for hot dog toppings being a little out of the everyday. There are 50 toppings possibilities listed on the Happy Dog menu.
Here are my top 10 "I'd like to try that" options:
(Honorable mention: Fruit Loops, top secret fry sauce)
10. Sriracha
9. Habanero pickled red onions
8. Momocho's habanero hot sauce
7. Rising Star Coffee and ancho bbq sauce
6. Roasted garlic aioli
5. Greek feta cheese
4. Chorizo chili
3. Sunny side up fried egg
2. Bacon-balsamic marmalade
1. Oaxacan red chile and chocolate mole
Now build your own hot dog (in the comment section) using these toppings and any others you would like to employ.
