You win, Sonic. You win.
The Texas Rangers are 118 games into the season, which means I've seen about 798 Sonic commercials, all featuring those two guys (T.J. Jagodowski and Peter Grosz, who also appear as a pair in the film "Stranger Than Fiction"), advertising either milkshakes or pretzel dogs.
Sonic also sponsors the "Sonic Slam" inning (the sixth), which is a great idea because if someone hits a home run in the sixth, it's automatic water-cooler talk the next day. "Hey, did you see Pierzynski homered last night?" says one person, avoiding work. "Yeah! It was the Sonic Slam inning so some guy from Burleson won $200!"
That's effective advertising, friends.
It also makes me wonder if Fox Sports Southwest can charge more for ads when the Rangers are winning.
Anyway, after 118 games of seeing Sonic ads this season, I finally tried a pretzel dog today. Actually, I made the good kids at Sonic make me a New York dog on a pretzel bun. Pretzel buns are all the rage at the moment, which means pretzel farmers must be raking in the money.
The dog was ok. The pretzel brought something to the table, but it also fell apart, so I guess it was a wash.
But what do you think is the better Rangers promotion: the Sonic Slam inning or the deal where you get Papa John's for 50 percent off when the Rangers score seven or more runs?
