One of these days, hopefully pretty soon, WacoFork will be able to declare a lunch rush at a local restaurant and bring enough business to fill up our place of choice.
When that time comes, it will probably look and feel a lot like the lunch I just attended. On Sunday, University Baptist Church community pastor Craig Nash announced from the stage that we would have a lunch meet up at Taqueria El Crucero on Tuesday.
What happened? We took over El Crucero.
I looked around the dining room and counted about 28 total places to sit. Our UBC group gobbled up about 20 of those places. But I don't think we elbowed anyone to the side. Everyone seemed happy, especially the restaurant staff.
It also made an interesting installment #2 of "Mexican Food Week" as I perused several dishes from El Crucero. After eating an El Oso burrito at El Crucero last week, I opted for a relleno burrito this week. It was a tasty combination of eggs, bean, rice and a relleno pepper.
My buddy Wes Butler tackled enchiladas with green sauce, a spicy meal of sweat-inducing proportions.
Meanwhile, some from our table seemed to be having a race to see how much of an El Oso burrito they could eat and how quickly it could be eaten. I believe Mark "The Shark" Waldrop won as I looked over and saw an empty plate in front of him while everyone else still had bits of burrito remaining on their plates. Perhaps that's why they call him "The Shark."
