I love sports and I really like the city of Chicago. I could even say that I love it, but I feel like I need to get to know it a little better before I go that far. I also really like the city of Boston as we got acquainted for the first time last summer.
But I do not care about the Stanley Cup Finals.
So when a guy at The Dancing Bear Pub asked that the channel be changed from the Rangers-A's game in the seventh inning to the Bruins-Blackhawks Game 4 my response was "whoa, whoa, whoa!" Alas, I was distracted by a fellow pub patron and a conversation we were having, so before I knew it, hockey was on the TV.
Here's a little sports-watching-in-public etiquette point, though. I was neither committed to focusing on the baseball game nor was I committed to the seat I was occupying and the Rangers game was on another, albeit smaller, TV. So I gave up the fight with minimal griping.
Actually I griped a little until a girl (A GIRL!) said "well, it is the Stanley Cup Finals." Then I really gave up and mingled with friends. The Rangers still won, thank goodness.
All of that to point out that the NBA Finals Game 7 is tonight and some of us will be out watching it and most of us will want the Spurs to win, though some of us will be cheering for the Heat. So this is me encouraging everyone to go out of their way to get along with each other.
You'll feel better at the end of the night.
