Well, kids, summer is here, so you should know that this exists: Barefoot Ski Ranch Cable Park and the BSR Bar & Grill.
It's about a 15-minute drive from most prominent locations within our humble burg, on the way to Mexia. It's about as country redneck a thing as I can imagine myself really wanting to do. The way it works is they have a pulley system of sorts that drags patrons around a circular lake while the patrons ski on a wake board. In other words, it's the best way to go wake boarding if you don't own a boat.
Also there are jumps.
And, as of this summer, the BSR Bar & Grill with an outstanding porch. I drank a beer there on Tuesday afternoon and it cured my usual Tuesday-afternoon grumpiness. So there's that.
If you recognize a certain crotchetiness in my tone, it's because I'm admitting that I've reached an age where only certain kinds of activities appeal to me. Dining at nice restaurants, going to ball games, playing golf, going to scheduled-venue concerts (no festivals). In other words, focused activities with a definitive beginning and end and involving a limited amount of hastle.
But, you know what? I wouldn't mind an afternoon hang out trying to barefoot ski, eating burgers and drinking beer outside on the lawn, on the porch or inside the restaurant and possibly playing a game of pool in the bar. That sun-burned, lazy, hazy feeling isn't a vibe I reach for very often, but this seems like a good place to get it going.
One more bite: Oh yeah, btw, I picked up a menu. It's standard bar and grill fare.
