Taco Week: Lolita's breakfast tacos

It's essential for me to include breakfast tacos in Taco Week, isn't it?

I'm more of a coffee and bagel person, so I don't necessarily have a go-to breakfast taco in town. If I did, it might be the variety offered at El Crucero because of its association with Common Grounds.

However, I obviously have to include breakfast tacos in Taco Week and I've already featured El Crucero once, so I woke up Tuesday morning with the momentum to egg-and-tortilla-and-salsa it up at an alternate location. But where? I decided my priorities were local and a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint of the kind that is only open for breakfast and lunch.

Since perhaps the most famous Mexican breakfast item in town is The Elefante at Lolita's, I reckoned they were going to be solid in the breakfast-taco category as well.

The theory proved correct.

I believe I've mentioned my love for chorizo in this space before, but just in case I'll reiterate. I'm a fan of chorizo. So I had chorizo-egg-and-potato tacos. They're just $1.85 per taco, but cheese costs extra. So does guacamole and sour cream. I couldn't decide if guacamole would work with eggs, but I've never been scared of adding guacamole to anything (short of a hot-fudged sundae; ever notice that a sundae is the one thing you can't augment with other condiments? note to self: try Tobasco on a sundae).

I chose one chorizo-egg-and-potato taco with cheese and one chorizo-egg-and-potato taco with guacamole. Both were outstanding, but if I had to do it again I would have guacamole on both.

I feel as if I've made one good decision today already. I'm open to suggestion, though, so tell me what is your favorite breakfast taco in town. There's still time to work another installment into Taco Week.
