I was spending the morning chilling at Dichotomy with my friends Carole Kiphen and Brett Jameson when it occurred to me that this is a pretty good town if you dig coffee shops.
We have quantity and quality and the people that run them like to host events. Dichotomy, for example, is hosting its monthly Thursday Night Throwdown (TNT) when will attempt to out-do one another with their latte art. This has become a popular event among baristas and spectators.
So mix that in and here's what this week at local coffee joints looks like.
Tonight: Movie Tuesday at Common Grounds. This week's movie is "The Princess Bride," which begins at 7 and is free with the purchase of a beverage.
Wednesday: Common Grounds open mic featuring the screening of a film by Jordan Bellamy. Open mic runs from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
Thursday: Dichotomy TNT. Sign ups start at 7. Pouring begins at 8.
Saturday: Jillian Edwards and Caleb Chapman return to the Common Grounds stage for a concert that also includes Air Review and Lonely Hunter. You can buy tickets here.
One more bite: I mentioned my friend Carole Kiphen in the lede paragraph of this blog. Interestingly, Dichotomy co-owner Jameson introduced Kiphen and me in 2009 when both of them were working at Starbucks. Kiphen and I have been friends ever since and I'm happy to congratulate her here on her upcoming wedding on Saturday as she's marrying Mr. Cody Ferguson. (This is also my shameful attempt to make up for the fact that I accidentally agreed to cover a basketball game at the same time as the wedding on Saturday). Kiphen took the photo accompanying this blog.
