Taqueria Thursday: El Crucero

Today's Taqueria Thursday is part celebration of one of my favorite taquerias and part public service announcement for those who share my enjoyment of Taqueria El Crucero.

I'll start with the PSA. Beginnin on Sept. 1, Crucero will be CASH ONLY. Start spreading that information to your friends now. If you're a Crucero regular, just go ahead and operate as if it's already cash only. I was on the way with a couple of friends today and I suggested we stop and get cash at the ATM. We decided to proceed and use plastic if necessary, but we still sort of prepared ourselves mentally.

While at Crucero, I asked owner Jesus Betancourt if he knew the location of the closest ATM and he said he'd already searched it out and it was just a couple of blocks away at a convenience store.

Determined to try something new and something that might not hinder my workout this afternoon, I ordered enchiladas potosinas. Given those criteria, potosinas were perfect, or at least perfect for me. As seen in the photo with this blog, potosinas are a different kind of enchiladas as the fillings sit on top of the tortillas. That's a delicious blend of chorizo, potatoes, queso fresco, lettuce, onions, jalapeƱos and tomatoes. I realize some folks would have the discipline to only eat a specific small amount of grilled chicken breast or vegetables or something. But I'm doing the best I can to carry on things like Taqueria Thursday and still get in better shape.

My friends Tye and Katie Barrett each lunched on bean and cheese burritos. They doused them with Crucero's beloved green sauce and inhaled them like they might grow legs and run away.

It was a good lunch.
