Halfway to my car, I realized I could not afford to leave my to-go cup sitting on the table. I needed the cup. I needed the sweet, fire-extinguising Coca-Cola.
As part of my taqueria adventure in August, I've attempted to get around to a few taquerias that are new to me. Mi Casita Express fit in that category as it's not on my beaten path but has always seemed appealing to me. This perhaps is because when I was a Taco-Bell-eating teenager, it was a Taco Bell. So I have some nostalgia tied up in that little building on Valley Mills Drive.
But now I have a stronger impression — that of the burning back heat of Mi Casita Express's green salsa. I acknowledged the "hot" label at Mi Casita Express's salsa bar. But a little back heat goes with the green salsa territory. Not sure if I just caught it on a good day, but that stuff had legitimate back-end kick.
I finished up a quick lunch with one more chip dipped in the green salsa, followed by a chip dip of guacamole and one last bite of taco. I sipped my Coke, left it on the table and headed for my car. But before I opened my driver's-side soor, I knew I needed to go back to retrieve my beverage. Otherwise my tongue and lips would continue to burn indefinitely.
I'm not complaining, mind you. I'm just impressed. If kick is a major factor in determining great salsa, and I'm assuming it is, then I would have to recommend giving Mi Casita Express's green salsa a taste.
