Every now and then, my paths as a sportswriter and restaurant blogger cross as I bump into one of Waco's sports personalities.
It seem like we have more of them than ever before, doesn't it? I mean there's been people like Michael Johnson and LaDainian Tomlinson for a while, right? But now we have people like Art Briles and RG3 and PJ3 and Scott Drew and Brittney Griner and a whole bunch of other men's and women's hoops stars.
Of course, the reigning queen of the Waco sports kingdom is Kim Mulkey, and that's who I bumped into recently. We spoke about WacoFork and her love for dining out. So I asked a few questions.
Here's what she said:
What's your favorite pre-practice spot?
My office.
Where do you send out for the most?
Actually, I don’t eat in the office much. I need to get out before practice but if I do, it’s usually sandwiches from Schlotzsky’s.
Favorite comfort food?
Anything sweet. I love sliced strawberries and sugar mixed together to make it juicy. I like real whipped cream whipped up, then put on top of a bowl of strawberries.
Favorite fancy spot?
Any fancy spot that will allow casual dress and has good food.
When it's lunchtime at the office and someone says "Where you wanna eat?" what's the most common answer?
It is usually something close by the office. It could be Schlotzsky’s, Bangkok Royal, Demario’s BBQ or Amelia’s in Sironia.
