I don't subscribe to the usual "Best of" hype.
I downed two amazing hamburgers this week — the first at Cafe Homestead and then at Captain Billy Whizzbang's — before arriving at DUBL-R today. But if I saw a "Best of" list that selected DUBL-R as one of Waco's favorite burger joints, I wouldn't have an issue with it.
I don't make it to DUBL-R too often. Some might say I don't make it there often enough. The jalapeño cheeseburger that recently crossed my lips would certainly make a case for the latter.
If you read this blog regularly, you know that I write about restaurants, but not in such a way that lends to me describing dishes in detail and/or telling you where or where not to eat. The reviews and ratings on our site might give you a feel for where you want to eat, but we're not a "Best of" gimmick.
That stated, here are my thoughts midway through this week's burger adventure.
Cafe Homestead quesadilla burger — the most unique burger in town, but still very much a burger; worth the trip north of town.
Captain Billy's double-double — something about double meat makes the beef so tasty; like i wrote, I intended to stop halfway through but couldn't stop.
DUBL-R jalapeño and cheese — fantastic combination of patty, dressing and veggies with the reliable jalapeño kick.
