It feels like it's about time to do a week. It also seems like I would have done burger week by this point, but I haven't.
In the 13 months that WacoFork has been around, we've had barbecue week, Mexican food week, sandwich week, Asian food week, we've even had a week when we ate on the porch or patio all week.
There's plenty more weeks to do. Pizza week for example. But before I go on with anything else, it's time to do burger week.
This is one that could really shine here. No shortage of burger joints that will fill the belly and satisfy the soul in our town. Nonetheless, the bar was set high on Monday as I began with Cafe Homestead's quesadilla burger.
Not a traditional beginning, I realize. This stretches the definition of burger. And the definition of quesadilla. But both cases of stretching result in something delicious.
It's nice to be able to walk into a restaurant like Cafe Homestead, which offers a wide variety of consistently great dishes, and know exactly what I want to order. Quesadilla burger. Sweet potato fries. Peach tea.
Good. Better. Best. In no particular order.
The quesadilla burger presents several options for eating it. It could be eaten like a burger or a quesadilla, meaning it could be eaten with the hands. But it's awfully juicy, so my strategy is to consume it with a fork. I think that's the best way to keep the juice from ending up on my hands, my shirt and the table. By using a fork, I can manipulate things so that the juice just runs out on the plate. Then I soak up the extra juice with the sweet potato fries.
Ok, Waco, beat that.
