In Tina Fey's book "Bossypants" she relates what it felt like to write a sketch for Saturday Night Live that she knew was a flop and then the cruelty of having to watch that sketch actually air.
But she made a profound point. She wrote "You can go back to panning for gold on Monday."
That's kind of how I feel about my own writing some days. And so it's only fair and honest to say that's kind of how I feel about trying to put together the "Month In Reviews" this month. So I've pulled out a couple of great things, but mostly we're going to go back to panning for gold in May.
To that end, we're going to incentivize writing reviews again. One lucky reviewer will win a $25 gift card to the restaurant of his or her choice. But there's a little bit of a twist this month. Every review earns an entry. However, if you write a review of a restaurant that has never been reviewed before, you get a bonus entry.
Have at it.
And here's the two gems from April
On the re-emerging of Fat Ho Burger: "If you haven’t heard by now Fat Ho is back up and running…. Well jogging is more like it."
On the Whizz-Pig at Captain Billy Whizzbang's (the best paragraph of the review): "I like to think of it as the perfect bite burger. The patty is half ground beef half BACON!!! Bacon and cheeseburgers go hand in hand for me. The most troublesome predicament about a normal bacon cheeseburger is that you will inevitably get a few bites (mostly towards the end) that do not have bacon (amateur hour, bush league, I know). Not with the Whizzpig! Half beef, half bacon! 1 to 1! Bacony y Beefy! With these measurements in mind, simple logic tells us that every bite will be perfect!"
(The best line of Captain Billy's co-proprietor Trent Neuman's response): "WE WILL PUT CHILI AND CHEESE ON ANYTHING…"
