I knew all along I would dedicate a Fried-day blog to donuts.
By the way, there is a variety of ways to spell donuts or doughnuts (preferred Wikipedia spelling) or Do-Nuts (the Shipley spelling). I'm going with donuts. It's just easier, you know?
So today was the day that donuts made their Fried-debut (that's Fried-day combined with debut). I think it's completely appropriate that the Fried-day donuts were purchased before 6:15 in the morning and taken directly to a church.
I arose early this morning to provide a little assistance with the University Baptist Church garage sale, which is going on today and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m at the parking lot at the corner of 18th Street and Dutton Ave. Check it out on Saturday. There's some good stuff available.
As it happened, bringing donuts to the early-morning workers at the garage sale made for an excellent photo opportunity for this blog. That's really why I did it. I know an easy photo opp when I see one.
Obviously, I went pretty basic with the donut selection — a dozen glazed, a dozen chocolate-covered and a few bear claws. When you're a little kid, it's natural to be fascinated by all the different kind of donuts. But, as with most things, I've come to believe simple and straight forward hits the target.
However, I'm open to suggestion here. What's your favorite kind of donut? Does it have sprinkles? How do you feel about eclairs? Who makes the best donuts in town? Let's here some chatter out there. It wouldn't be Fried-day without you.
