Attention fans of Fried-day (if that is a kind of person that actually exists): Fried-day has been moved up a day this week.
It's today.
Like last week, when I promoted the catfish at The Coffee Shop Cafe in McGregor, I want to highlight a restaurant that might be a bit of a drive for some people in WacoFork land, but is definitely worth the trip.
Lone Star Tavern serves up perhaps the best chicken fried steak in town, therefore it probably should go into the Fried-day Hall of Fame if there were such and thing, and perhaps some day there will be. Right off the top of my head at this moment, the only chicken fried steak in our county that I can think of that would challenge Lone Star Tavern's chicken fried steak is that of The Coffee Shop.
Again, see last Fried-day's blog.
Lone Star Tavern, located on Highway 31 in Bellmead, offers a uniquely Texan dining experience. It's authentic Texan as it could be and the food is consistently delicious.
They also feature my second favorite way to order.
My favorite way to order is when I've already paid for a multiple course meal and I'm therefore required to pick a salad, starter, entree and dessert. My second favorite way is to circle all my choices on a piece of paper before I sit down, which is the system at Lone Star Tavern.
But back to the chicken fried steak at Lone Star Tavern as it stands apart from the version served at many other places. Lone Star Tavern has long employed a bread-crumb based batter that gives it cohesion with the steak, texture and flavor. And I hope we can agree that the batter on a chicken fried steak is more than half the battle.
It's a holiday weekend, so if you have family in town or you have the time to try something new, I recommend Lone Star Tavern and telling them WacoFork sent you.
