It's 12:37 p.m. and I'm using the WacoFork iPhone app to dial the new Hewitt Jimmy John's for lunch.
Ok, now I'm updating this blog with a little free-flow blogging about the general process of ordering the sandwich. After I called Jimmy John's it took them a second to figure out if my address was within their delivery area. Incidentally, I'm not at my house. My good friend Ronny Higgins allowed me to order the sandwiches from his house so that I might use a location within the Jimmy John's Hewitt delivery area.
Ronny just asked me to mention that his house, which is lovely, is for sale if you're in the market for a lovely house in the Jimmy John's Hewitt delivery area.
So anyway, a Jimmy John's delivery driver should be on his or her way here with a pair of Italian Night Club sandwiches, one with hot peppers and a couple of bags of jalapeno chips. I'm not going to take the time to add the tilde to the jalapenos because time is of the essence here. In case you can't tell, I'm challenging myself to type as much as possible before the sandwiches arrive. Not sure what that proves, but whatever.
I'd also like to mention, while I'm typing this blog, that it's Friday and that's kind of an exciting thing on a weekly basis. But today it's especially the case with the Waco Downtown Farmers Market opening tomorrow along with tailgate partying and the Baylor vs. Oklahoma football game on Saturday night. As for entertainment this evening, I'm considering going to watch the Midway Panthers play football in Midlothian. On the other hand, maybe I'll keep it close to home and have kind of a casual night out. For the first time in a while, I won't be covering a football game for the Trib tonight as the playoffs have whittled down the number of teams playing and those that are in action are kind of spread out. But I still think going to a high school football playoff game is about as fun a Friday night as a person can have. For those inclined for a road trip that will be well worth the drive, check out the La Vega Pirates versus Tyler Chapel Hill in Huntsville.
12:48 p.m. — a bit of a hiccup. The Jimmy John's driver just called to tell us he had a mix up with the address.
I feel kind of bad about this because I feel like I'm putting Jimmy John's on the spot. Moments after I dialed the number, my friend informed me that there are actually two streets in this area, both within the Jimmy John's delivery area apparently, called Mesa Verde. I honestly wasn't trying to trick them.
On the other hand, it's a good representation of customer service. So that's a positive for Jimmy John's.
12:51 p.m. — The Jimmy John's driver is here.
Thanks to Dave, the delivery driver, for handling the curve ball we threw him with efficiency and friendliness. That's Dave in the picture.
