Halloween seems to be a bit of an impromptu holiday.
At least to me as I don't think I've ever planned to go to a Halloween party more than 30 minutes before I was at the actual party. This usually results in a lame costume.
Our friends at Cafe Viejo San Juan did not make the same mistake. In fact, they've been planning their "Boo! In Cafe Viejo San Juan" party since early September.
Waco's only Puerto Rican restaurant will be a fun place to be on Halloween night as they're putting on a costume party complete with a $30 gift-certificate prize for the best costume. They're also giving away candy and serving up gratis appetizers from 8-9 p.m. on October 31.
You will also be able to dine on Puerto Rican food and CVSJ's newest menu item — breakfast burritos.
CVSJ proprietor Joseph Parrilla claims his breakfast burrito is the biggest and most sabrosa (Spanish for savory) in town. I ate one for lunch today and can't argue with him.
Jubilee Music Street Festival
Next weekend promises plenty of fun, including the Jubilee Music Street Festival which Mission Waco is hosting around the Jubilee Theatre (North 15th Street and Colcord).
Along with food from neighboring restaurants World Cup Cafe, D' Mediterranean Grill and Beatnix, the event will feature music from the Grammy Award winning Biscuit Brothers and a street dance from 2-5 p.m.
Entry to the event will be $5 and festival-goers will also be treated to inflatables, arts and crafts vendors and … well, basically all that a festival entails.
