Just so everyone knows, I didn't claim to be interested in eating healthy simply as a way of introducing the Eat Well Waco blog on Monday.
Perhaps if you saw me walking down the street, you might say under your breath "That eating healthy mularky must have been mere lip service." And it certainly felt that way when I made the bad decision of scarfing a burger when I arrived home from Dallas late Monday night. Fries too. Bad.
I'm trying to make up for it today, so I went to D's Mediterranean Grill and ordered from the Eat Well Waco menu suggestions that can be found on the wall there.
I chose the gyro plate with hummus and green beans, which happened to be fresh and delicious on Wednesday.
What did I learn?
Well, according to the Eat Well Waco menu, all the meals suggested contain 750 calories or less. But I didn't feel like I was skimping on lunch. The gyro plate featured five strips of gyro over rice. If anything, I doubted I could finish all of it and indeed I didn't.
This is important because I have probably been guilty in the past of assuming that a healthy menu item would only make me want a snack later in the day. I suppose the jury is still out on that one, but I'm pretty full.
What I learned though, was not as nice as what I already knew. I love me some hummus.
