I stopped by the Heart of Texas Coliseum this morning to check up on the status of Saturday's Margarita and Salsa Festival.
VIP tables are sold out, but chances are if you're trying to decide today whether or not to attend this event, you weren't concerned about reserving a VIP table. The good news, if this is something you want to do, is that $30 general admission tickets were still available as of 11 a.m. today.
What do you get for $30? Quite a bit actually.
You get to participate in the surveying of margaritas, salsas, quesos and guacamoles as both individuals and restaurants compete for the title of "Best," which of course means "Best in Waco." But when it comes to those four categories, I would put Waco's best up against the best in a whole lot of places.
You will be serenaded by the musical stylings of Texas country artists Gary Allan along with Stoney Larue and the Eli Young Band.
And, all the while, you will be helping to support the Arthritis Foundation.
The Margarita and Salsa Festival will be held at the Heart of Texas Coliseum which is now called the Extraco Events Center. Gates open at 6 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7-ish (the event website says 7, but let's be real about concerts, it's 7-ish).
This is the 16th annual Margarita and Salsa Festival. I attempted to provide the names of the winners from the 15th annual Margarita and Salsa Festival but could not find them. That's probably because this is the type of event that by the end of the evening everyone is full of a good time and no one is really bothered with the actual results of the contests.
