Today I got to spend some time with Dan Moroso, the founder and owner of the soon-to-open Moroso Wood Fired Pizzeria, and talk about his history and his vision for the restaurant and its location in an area he is calling Midtown. The restaurant is located in a very familiar setting as it occupies the former Bosque location of Cafe Cappuccino in Market Square.

The public is invited to visit the Battle of the Food Trucks event on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Killeen Community Center. Part of the proceeds from the 2nd Annual Battle of the Food Trucks hosted by HACCCT will be donated to the City of Killeen Fire Department.

What started as a way for Jamee Binner and her husband to adhere to their diet plan during the week has grown into a full time business. Binner started “meal prepping” two years ago as a way for her family to eat nutritious meals even on the busiest of days. In March, she and her business partner Brittney Knight formed JB’s Fit Eats. After creating a Facebook page, JB’s Fit Eats saw a quick response of over 375 likes within the first two weeks. The pair quickly went from preparing 30 meals a week to 100+.

My wife and I stopped by Hey Sugar last night with our kids so we could try out the new candy shop and ice cream parlor on Austin Avenue, and it didn't disappoint. They offer a huge assortment of candy, retro sodas, popcorn, gourmet chocolate and old fashioned ice cream. There's enough sugar in the store to give you a contact sugar high just from entering.

The Waco Trib reported earlier this week that Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of HGTV's Fixer Upper, have purchased Elite Café and have plans to do something with it. The Gaines didn't provide any details on exactly what they plan on doing with it, but given their history of turning old, run-down houses into dream homes and turning old, run-down silos into a tourist Mecca, we feel pretty confident that whatever they do will be great. But since we love all things Waco, and especially Waco restaurants, we thought we would offer 10 suggestions on what to do with the historic restaurant.

Young Chefs Academy is now offering classes at its Waco headquarters, beginning with summer camp. The “Camp-Can-I-Cook” sessions begin on June 6 and run through July 28. Summer camp is available for children ages 6-12. This is the first time that the corporate headquarters has offered courses for local children at its newly renovated facility. Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers has broken ground on its third Waco-area restaurant, and its first within walking distance of the Baylor University campus.

Stephen and I had the privilege today of trying out the newest entrant into the Waco seafood scene, The Catch. This fast-casual restaurant offers cajun-style seafood is in the former location of Rowdy Taco in the same shopping center as Smashburger and Mama Fu's.

The Methodist Children's Home is hosting the MCH 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run on Saturday at the Waco MCH campus. The event will raise money for MCH, which serves 1,400 children each day through residential programs, foster care and family outreach services.
