World Market coming to Waco

World Market coming to Waco

Now why would you, who came here to read a local food blog, care about the opening of a big box store?

Because many of us who like to eat also like to cook, and as much as I like HEB, we have a serious lack of grocery shopping diversity here in Waco, TX.  I often find myself stuck in a culinary rut – hitting the same 10 familiar grocery aisles and cooking the same five dishes over and over. I’m excited for some new shelves to browse, and you should be too!

To get you on my level, here are a few of my favorite offerings from World Market (opening next to Cabela's in Central Texas Marketplace at a yet to be ascertained date):

1.  INDIAN FOOD
…or at least good ingredients to make your own Indian food. No longer need we trek to Round Rock or wait for Saturday’s Farmer’s Market to get really good sauces and seasoning mixes; just toddle over to your local World Market.

2.  PARTY FOOD
From whiskey pecans to Moroccan meat rubs, gnocchi to kimchi, smoked kippers to mushroom pate—everything you need for a global themed bash.

3.  WORLDLY WINE
From every grape-growing corner of the world, cheers for new wines to try! And most importantly, they’re affordable.

World Market is no Whole Foods, but it’s not HEB either and sometimes they have free samples.  And really, what’s not to love about a place where you can get gourmet cheese AND fancy cheese servers AND a coffee table on which to display said cheese servers?  NOTHING! Unless, I suppose, you’re lactose intolerant. In which case I highly recommend the smoked salmon pate.
